The Breadwinner: A GOOD Book

Image result for the breadwinner book  I liked this book because it took place in Iraq. This man and his daughter sell goods for money.  Her dad gets arrested for no reason and the family needs money. The daughter has to pretend to be a boy so that she can walk around the streets because women aren't allowed to be on the streets without a man.
I would rate this 41/2 stars because it's a really good book.
Recommended for people who like graphic novels and "window" books.

One wish everyday, the same wish every time.

5th grade Charlie has just moved to Colby, to live with her Aunt Bertha and Uncle Gus due to problems with her family not being able to take care of her anymore. At first she hates it in Colby, the people the land and her school. She hates it until, she meets a dog and a boy who turn her life around.

I would recommend this book to you if you like:

Books about friendship, or books about how someone turned their life around.

             4.5 Stars
I really liked this book, but I wish it was a bit longer. But, I really like the story and how Charlie turns her life around.

Full of Hope

Jessica Carlisle just broke a track record. She boards a bus to go back to her school, then a drunk driver tailgates them. The next time she wakes up, she has a leg and a half. This book is the story of her recovery, getting through depression, and eventually finding hope.

I recommend that you read this book if you:

  • Have met, know, are, or want to know more about amputees.
  • Are not an amputee.
  • Enjoy running and do it as a sport.
  • Want to read a hopeful story.

This story was an excellent read. I strongly recommend.

She's a girl...but in a boys body.

Image result for lily and dunkinI just finished the book Lily and Dunkin and it was so good. There is this boy, Timothy Mcgrother and he is a girl.  She is Lily Jo Mcgrother.  She is starting 8th grade and her dad hates her for being herself.  One day she goes out in her moms dress, and someone walks by. That someone is Norbert. He has bipolar disorder. One day lily is in a tree she calls Bob.  Norbert walks under the tree and sees Timothy.  Lily comes down and says hi.  Norbert tells Timothy that his name is Dunkin. When Dunkin ends up in a huge lie about being a good basketball player with Lily's enemies, he does not take his pills for his bipolar disorder.  Lily has to convince her dad that her being her is okay before it is too late.  I would recommend this book for people who like friendship books and about people who read books about LGBTQ+

Imagine you have a fourth dimensional alien fused inside you.

I finished Felix Yz by Lisa Bunker. When Felix Yz is three, he gets a fourth dimension alien stuck inside him because of a science experiment gone wrong. (teleportation if you want to know) Everyone calls the alien Zyx. In this book, it is a story all about the events leading up to the zero moment. The zero moments is when they will stop Felixes heart and they will remove Zyx. Then they will try to send a shock with 100,000,000,000 volts of electricity into him and his heart should start again.  There is only a one in five chances of him living.  This book is very suspenseful and it is super good. I would recommend this book to people who like science fiction books and people who like to read about people with disabilities. I would give this book five stars.  It is really good!

Enthralling Book...Will Hook You

Amanda Hardy just transferred to a new school. She starts dating Grant Everett very soon after transferring, but fears moving their relationship any further because the secret that she won't tell anybody: She used to be Andrew.

I recommend this book to you if:

    •  You are transgender, know someone who is transgender, or are interested in learning more about the process of switching genders
      • *DO NOT READ IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE STRONG LANGUAGE*

I enjoyed this book, but there was too much language and Young Adult content for it to be 5 stars.

Lanesha loves math and wants to be an engineer when she grows up. See can also see ghosts, her mother's is still hanging around the house. Mama Ya-Ya,  Lanesha's caregiver, can see the future. They live in Ninth Ward, one of the poorest neighborhoods in New Orleans. Mama-YaYa knows something worse than a hurricane is coming but her visions don't make any sense to her. Will they survive when they don't have the resources to escape? Read Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes to find out.

    • People who love stories about the strength of love and family.
    • People who enjoy reading books with strong female characters.
    • Anyone who has survived a flood, a hurricane or any other disaster really. (Be warned, it could bring back some tough emotions and memories for you though.)

    An added note...
I connected to this book because I lived in Florida at the time Hurricane Katrina hit.  I remember watching what happened in New Orleans on the news and being so, so sad. The devastation was immense and so many people were unable to escape or were separated from their families.  So many people lost their homes, their loved ones, and even their lives. This book made me sad all over again but it also helped me understand just how resilient or strong some humans are in the face of disaster.

I would give this book 4 stars.
