The Odyssey
The Odyssey, one of the world's classics, is about the travels and troubles of Odysseus. Familiar with Greek mythology? You know who I'm talking about.
However, this book is called an epic poem for a reason. The poem itself is 485 pages long, and the plot is complicated. So I do not recommend this book to you unless you think you can handle it, because it is kind of a difficult read.
This book does have some language.
I rate this book 3.5 stars, just because it is a difficult read.

The Edge by Roland smith
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Edge by Roland Smith (if you read my post about the first book Peak, you will know about the main character Peak Marcello) is about Peak when he meets some of his old friends from the Everest climb. They tell him about a PEACE climb sponsored by Sebastian Plank, a billionaire trying to make peace worldwide. Climbing groups from most countries will climb in different places and somehow represent peace. Peak and his crew are chosen for Afghanistan. They will represent peace by putting their tents in a triangle, each tent with a different letter on it, spelling out P E A C E and spend a night like that. They do. and when Peak wakes up the next day, All his friends are gone. and he has one job: to find them.

An address like no other
I read the book No Fixed Address by Susin Nielsen because it was a sliding glass door for me. Felix Knutsson has a love for a tv show called Who, What, Where, When. His mom Astrid is a good mom, sometimes, but she just can't seem to keep a job. When they move into a Westfalia van his mom tells him that under no circumstance can he tell anyone about their living situation. When he gets into the French only class he meets Winnie Wu. During this book, Felix not only learns a lot about himself but also about the world around him. Read the book to find out what happens to Felix, Astrid, Winnie, and their current situation. I would recommend this book to anyone who is reading the 2019-2020 DCF book list and to anyone who likes subtle suspense, and a good book. I would rate this book a 4.5 because it was a good book but it wasn't my favorite.

You're trapped in a coffin...and you have to fight your way out
Alive- Scott Sigler
It's your twelfth birthday. You don't want to go to school. No one should have to go to school on their birthday right? A sharp pain wakes you up. Ow... What is that? You try to sit up, but there's something above your head. Is it...a lid? Am I... in a coffin? You have to fight your way out, and after trying, and trying, you finally break out and stumble onto the ground. Blinding light meets your eyes. When you finally adjust to the light, you realize you're in a room with many more un-opened coffins. You have no idea what is coming next.

WARNING! Anyone who can not handle strong language I do not recommend this book for you. (Well actually I kind of forgot if this book has swears in it, but I think it does, so...yeah.)
I give this book 5 stars because it is AMAZING.

A captivating page-turner
When Grace who lives in a slave cabin on tobacco plantation gets called up to work at the "Big house" to help work in the kitchen she knows a big adventure is awaiting her. Sneaking down to the cabin where her mother, father, aunt, and two young boys live is crucial to helping them one day escape and truly learn the definition of FREEDOM. Read the book Unbound by Ann E. Burg to find out what happens to her family and if they ever do find a way to escape slavery.I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books about slavery, realistic fiction, and to people who can handle a sad book.
WARNING: This is a very heartwrenching and sad book. You should NOT read this book if you can not handle books that make you feel like you want to cry.
I would give this book 4 stars because it was a good book but at times it was a little confusing.

A hurricane is coming...and that is only the beginning!
Lanesha loves math and wants to be an engineer when she grows up. See can also see ghosts, her mother's is still hanging around the house. Mama Ya-Ya, Lanesha's caregiver, can see the future. They live in Ninth Ward, one of the poorest neighborhoods in New Orleans. Mama-YaYa knows something worse than a hurricane is coming but her visions don't make any sense to her. Will they survive when they don't have the resources to escape? Read Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes to find out.
- People who love stories about the strength of love and family.
- People who enjoy reading books with strong female characters.
- Anyone who has survived a flood, a hurricane or any other disaster really. (Be warned, it could bring back some tough emotions and memories for you though.)
An added note...
I connected to this book because I lived in Florida at the time Hurricane Katrina hit. I remember watching what happened in New Orleans on the news and being so, so sad. The devastation was immense and so many people were unable to escape or were separated from their families. So many people lost their homes, their loved ones, and even their lives. This book made me sad all over again but it also helped me understand just how resilient or strong some humans are in the face of disaster.
I would give this book 4 stars.
